The house, built in 1695 of mellow local stone, was purchased and re-modelled in 1927-29 by Walkter Samuel, 2nd Viscount Bearsted, Chairmen of Shell 1921-46.

Upton contains his world class collection of English and continental old master paintings, French porcelain, Chelsea figures and 18th century furniture. The spectacular garden is full of variety, with terraces, herbaceous borders, kitchen garden, ornamental pools and an interesting 1930's water garden together with the National Collection of Asters.

4th November - 17th December (Restaurant, Upper Garden & Christmas Shop) Sat & Sun 12-4pm
